Open the official Coinbase Wallet website and follow its link to your browser’s official extension store. Check the publisher and URL before installing. Select Add to browser, review the requested permissions, and pin the wallet icon so it is easy to find. Never install a wallet from an unsolicited message or an unfamiliar download page.
Launch the extension and choose whether to create a new wallet or import one you already control. Follow the on-screen setup carefully. A recovery phrase is the master key to a self-custody wallet: write it down offline, keep it private, and store it somewhere secure. Anyone who obtains it may be able to access your assets.
Set a strong password for the extension and enable your computer’s available security protections. A password helps protect the wallet on that device, but it does not replace the recovery phrase. Coinbase Support will never ask you to share that phrase, your password, or remote access to your computer.
Once setup is complete, you can view supported assets, connect to decentralized applications, and explore web3. Before connecting, check the site address and make sure you understand the permissions requested. Read transaction details before approving them: blockchain transactions are generally irreversible.
Never type it into a website, share it in a chat, or send it to someone claiming to be support. Treat unexpected links and urgent requests with caution. If anything feels suspicious, close the page and navigate to the official website yourself.
